Jackass alert: Software Candy takes your tips, and spams

logoSoftware Candy, a Vermont-based company, makes its business scouring the web for various invaluable tweaks, throwing an executable wrapper around it, and selling it at enticing prices.

If they want to waste their time creating wrappers – fine – but I draw the line at the ripping off my logon UI tip then returning to comment-spam their crap software.

What a bunch of losers.

“Check if your Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit” lol. I thought winver would say (but it doesn’t appear to). At any rate having or not having a “Program Files (x86)” folder gives it away.

“Open Folder In a Separate Process” Whaat… this is literally a checkbox that’s a few clicks away from any Explorer window.

    “Empty Recycle Bin Even Faster
Wouldn’t it be great if your Recycle Bin was always just a click away?…” What… it… it’s on the desktop already… what?

    “Halt On BSOD
Is your PC automatically restarting on its own, not giving you a chance…” Uhh this is only really useful for techies, and techies are clearly NOT their market…?

    “Neat System Tray
Is your taskbar looking a little cluttered? Our Neat System Tray can…” Oh wow… let me guess… it right clicks on the tray and selects Properties for you for only $3.

    “Right Click Copy To
Would you like a faster way to copy and move your files and folders to…” I’m going to assume this is the same tweak that messes stuff up because it was never meant to be used like this: http://blogs.msdn.com/oldnewthing/archive/2004/02/02/66160.aspx

    “Shrink My Thumbnails
Want to fit more thumbnails on your screen at a time? Our Shrink My…” Wait a minute, they had an “Enlarge My Thumbnails” on the previous page! Are you telling me I have to pay a SECOND time if I want to change it back?

    “Sort Progs and Favs
Wouldn’t it be great if all of your Programs and Favorites were listed…” This is literally a right click option, although to do it globally you delete the registry key containing sort information.

    “Useful Desktop
Do you miss “My Documents” and “My Computer” on your desktop? Now…” Wow, another “Already in the UI”. Desktop right click, Properties, Desktop, Customize Desktop. It’s right there.

At least a couple of their tools sound vaguely more useful, such as the ones that claim to “speed up” aspects of your computer (I’m guessing they trim invalid entries from certain registry keys or something).

This is the most bullshitiest thing I have ever seen in my life.

I agree with both Panda and Rafael.
    This company blows.

    HEY!
He ripped off my idea to rip off people’s ideas, then sell them to complete idiots…. except… I was gonna target Mac users.

Well, hey, i’m on a mac, and my trash doesn’t empty half the time anyway. I’m working on porting all of these items to OSX- OH WAIT.

This is bull, such bull. Essentially preying on people who don’t know how to use the computer. Scum.
