Tom Warren, English extraordinaire at Neowin, slipped me a piece of paper stating Windows “7” is now to be officially called… Windows “7”. I did a quick impromptu survey with some folks on my Windows Live Messenger buddy list and it seems split down the middle.

What do you think?

    I prefer “Windows 7″!

Wait, you mean it’s not going to be Windows Blackcomb?

not even Windows “Vista Release 2 Edition 2010 with built in Service Pack 1 Slipstream Professional”? I think that rolls off the tongue much more easily than Windows “7″.

    Tom, I agree, Tom

Windows 7. That is all. I just needed to say it again. It rolls off the tongue nicely.

I think Windows 7 is a fine name and it’s well appreciated by bloggers and web surfers who got used since 2006 to this name. I think this is gonna go very smooth.

What’s with all the Vista 2.0 jokes? From what I’ve seen from the PDC videos, Windows 7 has a lot of new features that I’m pretty excited about (namely the superbar and Aero Peek).

As far as Windows 7 being the working name… eh, I dunno. I would have preferred an actual name, like they did with Vista. Then again I can’t really think of a good name for it. Windows 7 kind of reminds me of when they named their OS after the year it was published in (i.e., Windows 95, 98, 2000). Is sounds kind of weird to me, I dunno. I guess I’ll get used to it. Still, I was looking forward to a name…

What about “The (hopefully) best windows yet (again)”???

Windows “7″ is a horrible name! Whoever likes that name should die in a fire. Windows “7″ is a MUCH better name.

I think I’d like “Windows 7″ as a name even better if the actual version of Windows was 7.0. Seems kind of silly to have Windows 7 have a OS version of 6.1

I’m going to pwn myself by posting this as I’ve got no knowledge of the amount of irony and sarcasm among the posters here, but I think the basis of the result was:
    Windows Se7en or Windows 7.

Since a lot of people are stupid, and can’t understand that “Windows Se7en” is indeed read as “Windows Seven” and not “Windows SeSevenen” or something along those lines, Windows 7 was deemed the best way to describe the new OS.

I think Windows “Happy Meal” might be sufficient, or Windows “Less than 99% Fat”

  21. dpvsti January 13, 2009 at 10:57 pm

    “99% Fat Free” sorry!

    @Chris
Its Windows 6.1 to improve compatibilty with windows API because they wouldnt under stand it coming back “7.0″ Apparently.
