Windows “7” multi-touch via N-Trig’s DuoSense™
Stephen Chapman, freelance UX evangelist and friend, slid me a note indicating he posted some verbose information regarding N-Trig’s latest DuoSense™ technology and how it fits in the Microsoft Windows “7” picture.
While the exploded views of this top-of-the-line technology look awesome, I can’t seem to think of any real world applications for this stuff… I mean when’s the last time you wanted to touch your monitor? And when you did, by accident, how high-pitched did you scream?
Maybe it’d be useful in delivering the ultimate Chuzzle experience, I don’t know… I’m curious to hear what you people think.

I’ve been wanting a UMPC.. or tablet or ‘that’ for ages. I like touch, touch is good. = ]
I think touchscreen is overrated, it does have its uses, but the iPhone has just gave it the overrated appeal upon it, I don’t think touchscreen is as amazing as people think, and as said in the blog, when you last touch your screen, you screamed, lol, finger marks all over the screen is ugly.
A touchscreen maybe got its advantages, but at a optimal desk configuration with 50 cm between you and your screen, it would look very strange to bend towards your screen only to click on a button.
But I can imagine, that such a thing could be quite handy if you want to draw something, so that you can draw it directly on your screen.
Nice feature, but not for me.
With most of the push for multi-touch from Microsoft, they’re usually including the example of using Paint with 2 fingers. Ever try drawing/painting with both hands at once? The results aren’t pretty. Yes, multi-touch has its place, but even Microsoft is struggling to come up with ways you’d use it in every-day computer use with a desktop machine.
@Blair Who said desktop machines???
Imagine porn videos where you can use your fingers to zoom in and out, change the angle, etc…have imagination.
I’m fairly sure if I got used to using office software the same way I use a pen and paper I’d never look back. Simply writing with one hand and holding a telephone with the other is useful. I reckon it might do wonders for my RSI too.
I’m mad keen on it for DJ use. It might not immediately be clear, but multitouch screens are truly the missing link in that app. I reckon there’s piles of specific apps where multitouch would significantly out perform xyz hardware controller (or a fantastic job of supplementing traditional input devices).
I have the same disdain for keyboards and mice that I have for rotating storage mediums (optical, magnetic, analogue – all of it). I cant wait for all that to go to technology heaven along with monochrome monitors and punch cards.
IMHO, just like computers, the internet and RSS readers, multitouch will be one of these things people can’t see a need for and then suddenly can’t live without.

touch screen is good but not all …i mean only good in office
