Stellar work. Had exactly the same problem 1 year+ after your post. This helped me track it down.
Vista64 sp2 on an Asus Striker 2 Extreme (with aforementioned audio chipset obviously).

Snagged the driver bundle listed on the support page on Sonic Focus’ site:

I ‘m having a problem with my sound. When I re-boot I get a message that satates: Sonic Focus” drivers must be loaded for this appplication to work.

It’s part of the Intel Audio Studio Controller.

Can anyone help?

Any definitive solution to this? I just selected “Disable System Effects” (here’s a pic: http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/5783/20081116154830xb0.png). Is that what you recommended to do? I’m rebooting now, I’ll write a new comment if I found ou anything new.

Now maybe you could help all of us out with NVIDIA ethernet driver issues and tell NVIDIA how to fix them. More reboots than not, the network driver doesn’t come up right and if you try to do anything in the hardware manager (like disable it), it more or less sends the kernel into a tizzy eating up 60% or so of CPU resources on a dual core Athlon.
